the verdict

For a quirky and bustling atmosphere, Low and Loftys is showing all other bars what a seriously good time looks like. For starters, the food here is a sure winner, drawing influence from the low, slow cooking of Texas combined with the exotic flavours and drinks of the Caribbean.

If you consider yourself a bit of a Pinball wizard or you’re just downright competitive (we’re not judging), you’re also going to love the arcade games here that are ripe for the picking.

And in between your pinball shenanigans (because you’ll obviously work up a pretty big appetite), there’s a heap of tasty snacks on offer like BBQ Jamaican jerk chicken wings, fried spicy ocean shrimp and slow cooked BBQ pork belly. To quench your thirst, there’s a huge range of craft beers, local and foreign organic wines, fresh juices and cocktails to wash it all down!

Bar Demo

Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
