Sydney's best waterfront restaurant

The verdict

There’s no denying Sydney’s harbour is one of the best of the Australian cities (if not the world), so it’s fair to say we’re always on the hunt for a venue with a view—and it doesn’t get much better than Manta Restaurant and Bar.

Situated on the iconic Woolloomooloo wharf, Manta presents itself as one of Sydney's finest harbourside venues, with waterfront dining and the city skyline providing a magnificent backdrop for both special occasions and informal feasting.

Having made it to the ten year mark, 2015 saw the venue undergo a dramatic refurbishment, and now boasts a stunning contemporary interior that would have jaw dropping reactions, regardless of the view (that’s just a bonus!).

Priding themselves on sustainability, Executive Chef Daniel Hughes and Head Chef Steve Hetherington make a point of sourcing fresh and quality produce to shape the exquisite menu. With a strong focus on seafood, the offerings are substantial and include some of our faves like the King George whiting, crumbed in the restaurant's very own organic sourdough and the steamed blue eye with celeriac puree and truffle butter.

For melt-in-your-mouth goodness, the whole flounder with chargrilled asparagus has us salivating at the mere thought. For something a little heavier, the rib-eye tastes as good as it looks, and the bonus? With all the beef served at Manta being farmed from owner Rob Rubis' family property in QLD, you can be guaranteed only the highest of quality.

You won’t be going thirsty here either, with a wine list comprising a range of both local and international wines, the focus is on quality to ensure there’s a perfect match for every dish - by the bottle or by the glass. The venue also houses the wharf’s only stand-up bar, so for an impressive martini cocktail carefully curated by Manta’s very own mixologist, this is the place. Hello Friday.

Whether it be a weekday lunch meeting, a long weekend lunch or a special event to celebrate, Manta Restaurant and Bar offers the perfect setting for a memorable dining experience.
