Rushcutters Bay, it’s time to prepare yourself for a newcomer, Marta, set to open mid-September. Marta will be a refined Roman restaurant, emerging in Popolo’s former premises (which is relocating to the CBD—don’t panic) where designers will create a seamless indoor and outdoor, communal yet intimate dining space. Popolo’s own Flavio Carnevale says the space will embody the energy and theatre of the famous drinking holes in Rome and we very much like the sound of that.
Expect utter deliciousness coming from the open-style kitchen, with dishes including bucatini mussels with tomato and pecorino, and baked anchovies with sautéed curly endive. Marta will also have daily house specials, spritz bar-inspired drinks and wines poured from Flavio’s handmade terracotta decanters, which pretty slick (not to mention authentic). We’re going to make sure we’re first in the door at Marta when it opens in just over a month and you should probably be right there with us.
