The Verdict
Hidden away in Chippendale’s Kensington Street, you’ll find Mekong serving up some of the best Indochine cuisine in Sydney. WTH is Indochine cuisine, we hear you ask? Think a tasty mix of Asian food inspired by the flavours of Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and Thailand. Yep, #droooool.
With a drinks menu boasting craft beer, aperitifs, cocktails and wine, you’re in good hands and it’s the kind of place you'll never want to leave.
The menu is jam-packed with fresh bites and entrees that will keep you coming back for more. We love the crab tacos (with crab meat and coconut on crispy espresso crepes), charcoal grilled betel leaves with pork belly and miso dipping sauce, and eggplant masala tempura (our fave!).
The mains are just as good (if not better) and we strongly suggest you come with a group so you can order a banquet and try one of everything. The smoked duck and the grilled pork neck salad are oh-so succulent, but if you prefer seafood make the steamed whole barramundi your go-to. Paired with a side of grilled cabbage with king brown mushrooms and truffle oil, fish doesn’t get much more delicious than this.
Perfect for date night, birthday celebrations or family get-togethers, Mekong Kensington Street deserves to be at the top of your foodie bucket list.
