The Verdict
The fact of the matter is—a city can never have too many greenhouses and nurseries. And, the newest house plant emporium to land on Sydney soil is hailing in hard from the Central Coast, so bring a car with enough space because you’ll be going home with the lot.
If you’re a plant aficionado, you’ve definitely heard about that fairy fern mother that is Noraville Green. This beauty’s OG store first opened in Toukley (about a two-hour drive north of Sydney) and for the die-hard stans of leaves, vines and succulents, the road trip has always been well worth the drive.
Now, Noraville Green has opened a brand new greenhouse in the heart of Darlinghurst. The store is flooded with natural light and, of course, it’s decorated floor-to-the-wall in all the greenery for deep jungle vibes.
“We try to make the stores a relaxing place to visit, “ says owner Tanya Baker. “Our layout provides a unique nursery experience; there’s definitely a lot to take in with layers of plants everywhere you look. From small desk plants to established statement plants there’s something for any space.”
The plant babies you can find across the greenhouse include predominantly indoor (common and uncommon) and tropical outdoor (shade-friendly) varieties. Noraville Green also specialises in a line-up of outdoor screening plants like Gracilis Slender Weaver Bamboo and Tiger Grass for max privacy—but trust us, this is truly not just your run-of-the-mill hardware store plant selection.
Baker says one of the signature plants people have been asking for is a super uncommon patterned Monstera. “Rare plant enthusiasts often approach us as we have a consistent supply of Variegated Monstera Deliciosa, a hard to find, current must-have ‘unicorn’ plant.”
This guy is one of the hardest plants to come by as there’s literally no way of knowing whether a Monstera Deliciosa will sprout. Its leaves feature a half white or cream and green mutation and the result is a big leaf plant whose folliage resembles marble or resin art.
“We stock a fun and interesting range of plants and jungle cactus in all sizes,” adds Baker. “Customers often comment that it’s our established plants they love and can’t find anywhere else.
“We like to hold plants in the Greenhouse for a little bit longer than most nurseries so we can provide plants that create an instant statement in your home. We have found if the right care and environment are provided, more established plants tend to have a better rate of survival when customers take them home.”
On top of this, the crew at Noraville Green will also give you all the care instructions you need to nurture your new bundles of leafy joy, and you’ll be free to message or call the team if you have any concerns later down the line. There’s also a mammoth stock of plant accessories to dig into like pots, fertiliser, totems, hooks and a whole heap more.
Should you not be able to get into the greenhouse, you can always shop from the comfort of your home at Noraville Green’s online store and collect plants at the store’s pick-up.
