The verdict

The Owl House is an intimate contemporary restaurant and neighbourhood bar located on Victoria Street in Sydney’s Darlinghurst.

If food envy is your nemesis then you’re in luck because they offer two six-course degustation menus, one vegan and one non-vegan – both complete with cocktails and wine paired expertly to each course.

For all of our intolerance-afflicted foodies, The Owl House is about to become your newest bestie, since they’re happy to cater their dishes to your needs at the drop of a hat. Whether it’s gluten you’re avoiding, vegan is your way of life, or you simply don’t fancy black pudding, just let your waiter know and be dazzled by their accommodating ways.

If you are searching for a new local, a degustation adventure, a Sydney bar that is open on Sunday and Monday nights, a pre or post theatre drink, or simply a good vantage point to watch the late-night Darlinghurst mischief unfold, pop The Owl House on your visit list.

Bar Demo

Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
