The Verdict

From the masterminds behind Left of Field in Rhodes comes Paperboy, its new sister cafe in nearby Concord. Serving all day brekkie (YES), coffee by Single O, and a menu bursting with creative twists on classic breakfast dishes, this is the place to go if you’re after a solid feed.

A must-try are the lamington waffles, smothered with dark chocolate, chewy nougat parfait, zingy berry jam, fresh fruit, and all sprinkled in desiccated coconut. Just as a lamington should be. Savoury fans will appreciate the house made spicy baked eggs with chickpeas, zaatar, crumbled cheese, and lamb sausages, bathed in a rich tomato sauce. It’s all served with crispy flat bread and since bread is life, that’s a damn good thing.

Lunch options include the Nahm Jim chicken burger—an Asian twist on the classic buttermilk chicken burg, with a soft milk bun, Asian slaw, and crispy iceberg lettuce served with childhood fave, prawn crackers instead of classic fries.

There is definitely a locals-only vibe here, but don’t let that deter you—in fact, we hope it makes you want to visit here more. Owners Matthew Abi-Arrage and Clovice Khachan have deliberately kept the local corner-shop vibe to pay homage to the joint’s traditional sandwich shop heritage. We’re sold.
