The Verdict

In Redfern, you can score decent dumplings (Happy D’s), pasta (Redfern Continental), bánh mì (Yellow Fever) and gelato (Ciccone and Sons). But there’s been a ramen-sized hole in this inner-city suburb...until now.

There’s a new ramen kid on the block and it’s called RaRa. It’s a shopfront on Regent St, housed under the IGLU student accommodation building, and it’ll be peddling ramen, house-made Japanese pickles and delicious fermented things.

They’ve imported their own noodle-making machine from Japan for fresh-as noodles every day, and head chef Scott Gault has been upskilling his ramen-making chops at Ramen Puka Puka, a popular fish-and-pork-based ramen joint in Fukuyama, Japan. Their menu will feature four omnivore soup bases (tonkotsu, chicken, shoyu and miso) and two veg/vegan options. Any meats will be ethically sourced, and they're licensed, so the drinks meny will include Japanese beers, whiskeys, umeshus, sakes, and local natural and pet-nat wines. Yum.

But before you leave the house, just wait up—they’re not open yet, and we’ve watched enough episodes of Reno Rumble to know that construction never runs to schedule. They’re planning on opening their doors in early July.

In the meantime, keep an eye on their Insta here.
