The verdict
Waterfront favourite Ripples Chowder Bay has had a refresh, bringing a laid-back but stylish atmosphere to the dining room, deck and new club lounge and private dining room, thanks to stone-topped tables, beachy mismatched stripes, and green leather elements.
Located in the beachside Clifton Gardens Reserve within Sydney Harbour National Park, Ripples’ 180-degree water views mean every seat in the house is a jaw-dropping one to enjoy the modern Australian-meets-Mediterranean menu and stunning cocktails.
Suited to sunset snacks or full meals, the menu celebrating local producers spans nibbles like taramasalata-filled pastry cigars, a Middle Eastern-inspired take on beef tartare, and signature halloumi tiropita layered with macadamia and rainforest honey.
Larger plates include mafaldine with spinach, grana padano, fricassee greens, chilli oil and stracciatella, whole grilled king prawns with garlic and gremolata butter, and a 12-hour slow-cooked NSW lamb shoulder.
Ripples is known for its expansive wine collection and impressive wine fridge, but cocktails like a toasted coconut daiquiri, Seaside Spritz with Italicus, St Germain, cantaloupe melon liqueur and lemon, and yuzu gimlet make for perfect waterside sips.
Ripples Chowder Bay is open seven days for lunch and dinner, with BYO available at $16 per bottle at dinner time.
