The verdict

Widely regarded as one of the best spots in Sydney to order a steak, Rockpool Bar & Grill is a CBD heavyweight restaurant with a lot of sophistication.

In its art deco building, the glitzy dining room is adorned with towering marble columns, sleek black leather and statement chandeliers, and you can expect top-notch service from this Sydney restaurant. 

The major focus on wood-grilled premium meats and seafood underpins the entire menu, with David Blackmore Wagyu and Cape Grim beef dry-aged on the premises to enhance flavour and texture, and available in a variety of cuts.

Simple but indulgent sides like sauteed Padron peppers in sherry vinegar, hand-cut chips and speck-laced mac and cheese pair perfectly, while other standouts are coral trout with South East Asian flavours from the charcoal oven, Abrolhos Island scallops with jamon XO, and house-smoked Berkshire ham with grilled pineapple, onion cream and tonka bean.

A 3000-strong wine list covers all bases, and the Rockpool Bar (worth a visit for a pre- or post-meal drink, knockoff or nightcap) also crafts seasonal cocktails.
