The verdict

The Royal Hotel Paddington is hosting a laneway party this Anzac Day! Expect the biggest 2 Up Arena in the East, classic Aussie tunes, an outdoor bar plus more from 9am.

The Royal Hotel Paddington has always been a hit with those on the eastside, and after your first visit it’s easy to see why. Spanning 4 levels, this trendy AF local boasts some of the best views in town, with a contemporary sports bar, Verandah Bistro, Elephant Bar and hidden Rooftop (everything is better when it’s hidden, and 147% more fun when it’s on a roof.

On the ground floor, you’ll find yourself at The Royal Bar. As traditional as pubs in Sydney get, it’s the perfect place to park yourself for a sports game or super casual midweek dinner date with your mates. Always bustling, order any good ol’ pub fave (think chicken schnitzel, parmigiana or sweet, succulent steak) but don’t go home without trying the parmesan and truffle fries.

If you’re looking for something a little fancier, head upstairs to The Verandah for plenty of share plates and alllll of the wine from their curated wine list. Enjoy long lunches in the sun under the retractable rooftop or cosy up by the fire at night. The menu will see you from day to night, with freshly shucked oysters, fish tacos and tuna poke to start, then kangaroo loin and crab linguine to finish. The desserts are just as delicious, so make sure you save room for the coconut panna cotta (it’s served with mulled strawberries and shortbread, you guys!). If you fancy people watch, nab a spot on the wrap around balcony above the bustling fiveways. You won’t be disappointed!

When it’s time to get your cocktail fix on, make the oh-so-secret Elephant Bar and Rooftop your next stop. With only 40 seats, this hidden gem overlooks the city skyline, so get there early and make your way through the entire menu (we’re talking Aperol Spritz, Espresso Martinis and more, obvs).

Did we mention they also do a bottomless Bellini brunch every Saturday? See you there.
