The verdict

The newest kids on the Surry Hills coffee block, Saltie is serving up burgers, brews, bowls and a pretty great crushed avo on toast. Their beans are by Gabriel coffee, which is always a winner in our books, and their crushed avo is served on sourdough with a tahini crema, sesame a wedge of lemon and we recommend you add a poached egg, crispy kale, or both. If you think more is more (join the club), then order the egg in a hole, which is a baked brioche, stuffed with egg, cheese and optional ham.

For lunch, there is a concise selection of burgs and bowls, and while we’ll usually head straight for the fried chicken burger (with slaw, house made garlic sauce and pickles), the tuna poké and French toast sticks are giving it a run for its money.

Head here for breakfast or lunch on the go and for the love of coffee, pick one up while you’re at it.
