Editor's note: Sandy's will be open every Wednesday–Saturday, from 10am–4pm during winter. We'll be sure to let you know once it's back to the usual operating hours.
Located just a couple of streets back from Avalon Beach, Sandy’s is a go-to lunch spot in the Northern Beaches. The bustling sandwich bar is a favourite among locals—and after one visit here you’ll know why.
Located below sibling venue Bar Elvina, the casual sanga shop came about thanks to the lack of fresh lunchtime options in this part of the Beaches, according to the team behind it. So, naturally, they opened Sandy’s and came up with its spot-on ‘Fresh As’ slogan. This place does what it says on the tin, bringing fresh ingredients and flavours to your next lunchtime feed by the beach. Fun fact: the rooftop garden above Bar Elvina provides many of the ingredients for Sandy’s.
Sandy’s isn’t any old run-of-the-mill sandwich shop, either, so you won’t see your regular servo-style ham and cheese sambo here. Instead, there are crowd favourites like the Prawn Dog, with prawns (obviously), cocktail sauce, and pickles, and the Pastrami Sandy made with wagyu pastrami, slaw, pineapple, smoked butter, and leaves. Feeling extra hungry? Try its schnitzel-stacked sandwich with chipotle onion jam and you won’t be disappointed. And for those looking for a lighter option, Sandy’s green tea soba noodle salad is a winner.
Continuing the oh-so-fresh theme, Sandy’s also serves up a range of juices, such as OJ with turmeric (because who doesn’t need a little immunity boost?). Feel like an ice-cold brew? You can grab a non-alcoholic Heaps Normal Quiet XPA—trust us, it actually tastes good.
In terms of decor, think no-fuss and beachy minimalism with lots of lush greenery and wooden accents. Plus, Sandy’s branding was done by ex-Mambo designer Paul McNeil, so make sure you check out its merch while you're there.
And you'll be pleased to know that sandy feet are welcome here (hence the name), and there’s a takeaway window to make it easier to grab your goods and head to the beach, too. Otherwise, settle in outside and soak up the sun while tucking into a sanga.
