Sea Sea Hotel is a boutique New South Wales stay in the cute coastal town of Crescent Head, officially opening on Friday 1 November. It’s a project by award-winning creative director and designer George Gorrow (co-founder of Ksubi and creator of The Slow in Bali) and his wife Cisco Tschurtschenthaler.

The ‘70s-inspired hotel has 25 rooms, and offers a rich cultural experience with a hi-fi audio lounge for live music, regular art exhibitions, artisan furniture and craft elements, and works from Gorrow’s personal collection of pieces by Australian and international artists decking out the space.

“A hotel for me is place, not just a bed you use to sleep in while visiting a town,” says Gorrow.

“The hotel can be a key experience. Something that allows you to deep-dive into the surrounding local culture. We are trying to do this at Sea Sea.”

Room types include studios, one- and two-bedroom suites, and a Balinese-style villa with a private pool and gardens, all styled with natural textures and tones, custom scents, and unique homewares and eco-luxe amenities.

Sea Sea Hotel’s expansive outdoor space has a large heated pool, sauna and ice bath, topped off with an outdoor fireplace and beautifully landscaped native gardens. Further communal spaces include the lounge with tunes provided by a resident selector and two fireplaces, a surf and souvenir shop, games room, and a restaurant and bar.

The Sea Sea Sane Kitchen is a partnership with Daniel Medcalf (of Bogangar’s No. 35 Kitchen & Bar, formerly Icebergs Dining Room and Bar), and offers a  “distinctly Crescent-inspired menu, with a Macleay Valley theme running throughout. It’s local produce brought together with plenty of care to showcase the best of what the overflowing Macleay Valley food bowl has to offer,” says Medcalf.

On the drinks program, Gorrow collaborated with P&V Wine + Liquor Merchants’ Mike Bennie to develop a wine label for the hotel: Zamiang Natural Wines. They feature throughout the bar and in-room mini bars.

Surfing is a major part of the Crescent Head community thanks to its coastline’s crystal-clear waters and enticing breaks, so Sea Sea Hotel’s surf store collaborated with Wild Things Gallery to offer rental boards by Gato Heroi, Dead Kooks, BMT– Alex Knost, Neal Purchase Jr, Creme, and more.

Sea Sea Hotel will open on Friday 1 November. Bookings are available online now.
