A Japanese shaved ice dessert from Senpai Ramen Burwood

Celebrated chef Chase Kojima is one of Australia’s best and most influential Japanese chefs. He's the creative genius behind Japanese fine diner Sokyo. Senpai Ramen is his rule-breaking ramen joint.

Following its initial launch in Chatswood and a pop-up in Darling Square, Senpai Ramen has opened a second home in Burwood. And, yes, you can bet it’s serving some of the best noodz in Sydney.

Senpai (meaning “honoured person”) accurately nods to the quality of food—and the calibre of the chef. Walking in, you’ll immediately spot the glowing purple neon and playful decor that’ll transport you to a buzzy Tokyo den.

While the Chatswood outpost offers an omakase experience, the vibe at Burwood is more casual, family-friendly, and a la carte.

For Burwood, Kojima partnered with restauranter Howin Chui of Ni Hao Bar and Kowloon Cafe fame to realise the Senpai expansion—and there are a few new and exclusive dishes at this location.

Like, the Senpai Malatang Ramen with a 16hr house-made pork bone broth and cold salads like a Japanese crispy rice caesar salad.

However, the most notable add-on at Senpai Ramen Burwood is the rainbow of desserts on offer. From umami soft serve to neon blue Hawaii floats, and Senpai doughnuts—the sweet end of the menu is where it's at.

Make sure you order the candy-coloured kakigori too—a Japanese shaved ice dessert available in flavours like fresh mango and Kyoto matcha.

Senpai Ramen Burwood will open on Friday 27 January. To celebrate the launch, the first 100 customers on Friday 27 January will receive free umami soft serve cones. Senapi Ramen will be open from 11.30am - 8.30pm.
