The Verdict

Skimpy speedos are not an uncommon sight at Bondi, but if you’re looking for something more pleasing to the eye, Speedo’s Café is here to the rescue. Whether you have niggly dietary requirements, live the clean eats lifestyle or are looking for a full-blown foodie feast, this local institution has got all bases covered.

For fitness fanatics looking for a post-surf chow down, Speedos’ ‘Protein Power’ is jam-packed with a whopping six egg whites, smoked salmon, avocado, spinach and toasted whole meal bread, and is guaranteed to fill you up at any time of day. Other standouts on their ‘clean’ brekkie menu includes the green goodness bowl, coconut chia pot (with that damn addictive Coco Whip) and their Sydney-famous pink pitaya bowl.

After something a bit naughtier? We hear ya. Speedos’ caramelised banana and chia vegan pancakes with triple berry compote, pistachio crumb and maple syrup—just don’t be shy about extra Coco Whip. If you’re into your eggies, the eggs benedict is not to be missed, and the egg and bacon brioche roll stuffed with BBQ tom relish, cheddar and a side of hashbrowns is an edible bundle of happiness. Wash it down with a smoothie, shake or ice-cold bevvie. Like their menu says, it's all about #yolo at Speedo’s Cafe.

When time isn’t on your side, pick up something from Speedo’s tasty takeaway menu. Their cabinet is stocked with both healthy and not-so-healthy goodies—we’re looking at you, cronuts.

But that’s just scratching the surface. Come lunchtime you can feast on perfectly seared salmon and zucchini noodles, a moreish pulled lamb quinoa bowl and the oh-so healthy yogi plate. Of course, Speedo’s understands that the reality of carb cravings. The ‘mean’ section features the likes of burgers (soft shell crab or juicy wagyu), fish and chips, and a seriously good garlic prawn linguini. Feeling crazy? Grab a glass of wine with your lunch, take a seat at the window and watch the world pass by. Yep, Speedo’s really is a slice of Sydney heaven.
