St. Lucia is bringing a little Latin heat to Newcastle’s waterfront, taking over a prime position in Honeysuckle as the latest venture from the team behind Blanca. Inspired by the food, music and hospitality cultures of Peru, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Argentina and Brazil, the venue blends smoky grill cooking, bright flavours and lively after-dark energy into one polished package.
Start with Hiramasa kingfish ceviche, kingfish tostadas or guacamole with house-made corn chips before working your way through larger dishes like beef cheek barbacoa, pork belly with guava and palm heart, or half chicken with black leek and morita pumpkin. Save room for the sides, too. Charred sweet corn with cotija cheese, cassava fries with ancho chilli crema and Latin-spiced red rice all deserve a spot on the table.
The drinks list spotlights South American wines alongside cocktails built around pisco, mezcal, rum and tequila—so if you're settling in for the evening, we'd suggest ordering broadly across both menus.
What sets this spot apart, however, is its focus on atmosphere. Latin percussion, DJs and upbeat soundtracks carry the room from dinner into late-night drinks, while globally sourced design details helping transform the waterfront site beyond your typical Newcastle haunt.
For a city continuing to level up its restaurant scene, St. Lucia feels like a natural fit—a must visit dining and nightlife destination, and likely to become one of Honeysuckle's busiest tables.
