The Verdict

Some of the best cooking comes from recipes that never made it into a book, just passed down at home from one generation to the next. That's exactly where Sufra's menu started, with owner Mouhamad building the offering around the dishes his mother cooked growing up in Aitaroun, a village in South Lebanon.

The result is Lebanese food with a modern, cafe-friendly edge, rooted in home-style cooking but reimagined for a menu that moves easily from breakfast through to dinner. Traditional Lebanese flavours sit alongside brunch classics with a Lebanese twist, and the space matches the food, with Lebanese-inspired murals that make Sufra one of the more distinctive rooms in the area.

The menu spans mezze, wraps, and set sharing plates, or "Set The Sufra," which covers fatteh, shawarma fatteh and msabaha alongside crispy fried fava beans and chickpeas dressed in olive oil, lemon and tahini. From the grill, expect lamb shish, shawarma and chicken tawook wraps, or the BBQ mixed skewer plate loaded with lamb shish kebab, kafta and chicken shish tawook served with tabouli, baba ghanoush and hummus.

Drinks lean into the nostalgia angle, with house-blend coffee and glass-bottled soft drinks rounding out a menu built on recipes passed down through the family.

Sufra is a Bexley find worth knowing about, whether you're after a proper Lebanese breakfast or settling in for something more.
