The Verdict
Long-time sushi masters, Sushi Hon, have joined forces with Design Clarity to create the artsy laneway joint, Sushi Hon Izakaya in Barangaroo. Izakaya is Japanese for bar or drinking tavern, so it makes sense that Sushi Hon Izakaya delivers a mix of pub and sushi train vibes—perfect for after work drinks or snacks.
You’ll step through the front door and find yourself in the Ramen Bar, where udon and noodle dishes are king. The space has been designed to mimic Tokyo’s nightlife scene, complete with with mirrored ceilings, graffiti mural and comfortable seating at the bar.
The second space is the Sushi Bar, where you can get—you guessed it—sushi. This means as much sushi and sashimi, plus as many bento boxes, udon noodle bowls, share plates and poké salads that you can stuff yo’ face with. Now this place didn’t just stop at two spaces, oh no no dear friends, they’ve also set up a take-away sushi shop where you can enter through the back laneway, then grab your rolls.
And just like all other Sushi Hon restaurants, you won’t wait long for your meal as all orders are done via their iPad ordering system (#fancy).
