The Verdict
Tucked away beneath Artarmon station, Sushi-Ya is an unassuming Japanese restaurant in Sydney that doesn’t let itself get swept away by frivolous plating or modern gastronomy but rather returns to the basics, serving up authentic Japanese. As the name would suggest, you can’t go past the sushi at this place. Only using the best quality ingredients, the salmon melts in your mouth and the soft shell crab roll is the perfect combo of crunch and creaminess.
But if you’re wanting to give the whole menu a crack (and you should because its pretty darn delicious), then be sure to opp for the combination set. Giving you the choice of two dishes from a range of two columns, you can pair your udon with a bowl of sashimi, or follow up the chicken teriyaki with a plate of salmon sushi. The options are endless, but be sure to leave room for dessert because the taiyaki waffle pancake is not only so kawaii (it’s shaped like a fish) but delectable too!
