If there's one thing Potts Point has been missing since the recent closure of Tacos Tacos Tacos at Llankelly Place, it's a hole-in-the-wall Mexican staple. Luckily, Taco + Vino is stepping up to the plate, doing exactly as their name suggests: a full Mexico City-inspired street food lineup, complete with a curated wine menu and casual courtyard setting.
Taking over the ex-Bar Lucia location on Kellett Street, you'll find this petite neighbourhood taqueria lit up in shades of royal blue, with traditional Gaonera tacos taking pride of place on the menu. The idea behind these bites is simple—ultra-thin cuts of premium beef, briefly seared and served fresh on a corn torilla with lime and salsa.
At Taco + Vino, you'll find them topped with rib-eye and wagyu—alongside a selection of seafood, veggie and birria spins that you'd be amiss not to try. And if the choice is too overwhelming, opt for the $60 set menu—you'll get a taste of everything from their house guac and chips, to smashed fried potatoes and charro beans (with plenty of taco action in the middle).
Somewhat untraditionally, vino takes pride of place on the drinking menu. The wine menu is designed to spotlight independent producers and sustainable vineyards, with weekly bottle-o pricing on selected labels. And if grapes aren't your thing, you'll still find your favourite Mexican classics in the mix. Taco Tuesday's are, naturally, a feature, made sweeter only with the addition of two-for-one Tommy's Margs, and $12 wines by the glass.
