The verdict
Revamped pubs are popping up left, right and centre, but our money is on The Bank Hotel (ha, get it?) as one of the best. The King Street institution in Newtown offers exceptional Latino flavours thanks to SoCal’s Zac Smart who has ventured to the other side of the bridge to take over the kitchen. With a charcoal barbeque, the beer garden now channels a back lane festival with a relaxed vibe and a Latino influence. The food is incredibly bueno too; the octopus with romesco and the corn fritters with green tomato salsa are our picks.
To celebrate the re-launch of this inner west icon, a BBQ and Beer Party will be taking place on Wednesday 31st August, from 6pm. With beats by DJ Gonzo, cocktails and samples from the new menu will be offered on a first in, first served basis. Get there pronto and buen provecho!
