The Bat and Ball Hotel

Perched on the corner of Cleveland and South Dowling Streets, The Bat and Ball is easily one of Surry Hills' most iconic pubs.

A favourite for sports fans making the journey to and from Moore Park stadiums, the pub has a rich history—but it'll soon be entering a fresh chapter under new management.

In 2024, neat lineup of some of Sydney's brightest bar talent has officially picked up the keys to the pub, with plans to reopen in late July or early August.

Now spearheading The Bat and Ball are owners of Enmore Country Club, The Little Guy, and The Sunshine Inn, Daniel McBride and Dynn Szmulewicz, alongside Doom Juice co-founder and creative director Zac Godbolt, former venue manager at Golden Gully and The Sunshine Inn Rachael Paul, and co-owner and executive chef of BTB Kirribilli and Lowkey North Sydney, Cameron Votano.

The team is remaining tight-lipped on plans for the pub, but based on their previous work, we're predicting classic pub vibes with a good helping of elevated Aussie nostalgia.

“It’s going to be electric, the process has already been extremely fun," Goldbolt said in a statement. "Lots of hard work but we can’t wait for that first beer when the doors open.”

The Bat and Ball Hotel is currently closed and will reopen in July/August 2024. Stay tuned for more updates.
