In another case of ‘we didn’t know what we were missing until it suddenly appeared’, a hip-hop-themed bar has opened in Sydney’s CBD and it’s the cure for so many of the stale Friday work drinks dilemmas. Named after the big man in hip-hop, Jay-Z, The Carter is inspired by New York’s signature architecture. You’ll enter on street level, where the décor is minimalist, with gold errrything, but once you head downstairs, you’ll not only see Beyoncé and Jay-Z murals but also notice the change to dark and moody (in the best way possible).
The cocktails are aptly named, with a heavy dose of humour as well, from the Kimye cocktail, the Crooked Hillary and Obama Out. The food is true to theme as well, with classic American combinations like fried chicken and waffles (maybe or favourite food combo ever). We recommend you try to tick off the entire hip-hop hall of fame through your meal, starting with The Carter chicken wings (served with Bey’s hot sauce), Kanye BBQ corn cob, the Biggie 1kg T-bone steak.
In case that wasn't enough to induce heavy AF breathing, this will be. The Carter might have to stick to the lock out laws in the CBD but that doesn't stop them from putting on a mean taco feast late into the night. Oh yeah, while the RnB beats are going strong, so too are the tacos with the kitchen staying open until 12pm on the weekend. All the usual flavour combos are covered here and the best part is they're stepping taco Tuesdays up a notch with the little bundles of yum costing $3 a pop every Tuesday at lunchtime. This place just gets us, you know.
