The Carter
The Verdict
As its name hints, The Carter is a nightclub, restaurant and bar dedicated to Bey and Jay, their chart-topping hits and the highs and lows of their iconic relationship.
As for what to expect at Sydney’s quirky multi-level shrine to one of music’s seminal couples, it has been designed (by the award-winning interior designers at BlackMilk Design) to resemble Jay-Z's New York City club, the 40/40 Lounge.
Across three mammoth levels, there’s a whole lot of pink neon to get around, opulent brass fixtures, Vuitton monogrammed carpet and song lyrics graffitied and slashed across walls. Levels are themed to chart the Beyonce-Jay-Z relationship saga: anger, luxe and love. Whip out a baseball bat in the basement (in the style of Queen B’s epic angry song, Hold Up), get ready to shop some serious art on the ground level, then fall Dangerously in Love on the first floor. What a rollercoaster.
On the menu are American staples with a Korean twist—think loaded burgers, fried chicken and cheesy fries, with fun Korean-style flavours. Items are named after hip hop legends, as are the cocktails. There’s an impressive champagne list too—and a whole lot of slaying and ‘gramming to get around.
