The Clareville is an airy cottage-restaurant on Sydney's Northern Beaches, serving up contemporary Australian cuisine with focus on local and native produce. A long-time community haunt, this spot is situated just off Clareville Beach—the perfect balance of local knowledge and coastal escape.

On the menu, expect a seafood focus: standouts are the rock oysters (served natural or dressed with cucumber, apple, jalapeno or dill crème), seared tuna with kombu cream, crispy buckwheat, kumquat and sumo mandarin dressing, and tiger prawn agnolotti with cauliflower, XO sauce, radish and macadamia.

If you're a little bit more picky, go for the $99 degustation: roasted scallop with miso butter, corn and furikake and curry devil egg with Nduja crumb, white anchovies, chives are just a few of the bites you'll be trying. Add on a wine pairing for $75, and you've got the perfect recipe for a long, long lunch (without stressing for choice).

The wine list is informed, but not overwhelming—both European and Australian labels take the heat at a variety of pricepoints. In terms of cocktails, we're a sucker for a margarita—so the spiced pear and saltbush marg is calling our name.

The Clareville is open Wednesday–Sunday: book a table online to secure your spot.
