The Verdict
The Long Goodbye is the latest cocktail bar to take up residency in the Sydney suburb of Darlinghurst. Rocking an effortlessly old school vibe, this 1940s inspired bar serves up the kind of classic cocktails, made complete with their house made liquor, that will have them known as one of the best cocktail bars in Sydney in no time.
Consider this your official hot tip, their signature cocktails taste as damn delectable as they sound; the strawberry blonde with lemon, strawberries, gin, soda and lemon curd, is a definite yes and their margarita, let’s just say you’ll want at least two.
Everything at The Long Goodbye is well thought through, with not too much renovation done to the space, meaning it keeps all of its original charm (rumor says this was a gentlemen’s club back in the day) and you can pretend you’re kicking back in yesteryear. Their glassware is also sourced from second hand shops, and their soft furnishing from antique sales, meaning all of those finer details you appreciate are on point here.
Now to the bar snacks; all good drinks are made great by seriously awesome snacks, and The Long Goodbye delivers. We’re talking toasties, with the exact, right amount of oozy, gooey cheese; charcuterie boards (of course) and cheeseboards, because there is nothing more decadent than sipping your martini from an antique glass as you pass the brie.
Did we mention the live music? Head down for live jazz and blues every Thursday night. We’ll see you at the bar.

Bar Demo
Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
