The verdict
In the heart of Sydney’s financial CBD sits The Wolf Wine Bar. Its cool yet casual atmosphere is what keeps people coming back, as well as the extensive and ever changing wine list. Wines from the ‘old world’ feature heavily and are updated to suit the season.
Food has been designed for sharing, the menu was structured this way so guests can share and sample many flavours upon each visit. If you are after something bigger, there’s the barbecued calamari or crisp pork belly, and the grilled haloumi, duck cigars and the crisp zucchini flowers filled with prawn mousse and aioli, are always a crowd pleaser.
Don’t think The Wolf Wine Bar is just for after work drinks, they also do breakfast during the week, with everything smashed avo on toast to granola and smoothies. For groups make sure you book ahead to secure a spot, and for even larger groups the space can be hired for events.

Bar Demo
Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
