Tita Carinderia is a Filipino cafe and bakery in Marrickville by the crew behind Donut Papi, replacing their Gluten Free Friends pop-up.
A fun and contemporary homage to the carinderias (which are typically an open-air, choose-your-own-adventure street food stall) of the Philippines, Tita ticks off breakfast creations, traditional Filipino dishes, and creative desserts and treats.
Breakfast sandwiches are served on pandesal muffins, with fillings like sweet longganisa sausage or Spam with egg, cheese, mayo and banana ketchup. There’s even a plant-based option with vegan longganisa and vegan scallion egg, or simple egg and cheese options.
More traditional eats like silog plates loaded with garlic rice, fried eggs and a pick of protein, and tortang talong eggplant omelettes are on the menu too (with fish sauce, soy sauce and spiced vinegar on hand to customise your perfect profile, of course).
Coming from the Donut Papi crew, the sweets and baked goods game is strong, with plain and filled pandesal, a rotating selection of treats including polvoron biscuits, a bibingka twist on Basque cheesecake with grated cheese and salted egg, and ube soft serve in cones or sundaes with caramel and shortbread crumb—just to name a few.
Tita Carinderia uses locally roasted Gabriel coffee, and serves Filipino and seasonal creations like the Manila latte (an iced vanilla latte with condensed milk) and fresh calamansi cold brew.
