The verdict
The latest restaurant to join the ranks on Enmore Road, ToriBar, is a yakitori and sake bar. Japanese grilled skewers reign supreme and after one taste you'll understand why. Inspired by a recent trip to Tokyo, ToriBar is reminiscent of bars in Japan’s capital and it doesn’t hurt that there’s a yakitori degustation. Expect classics like skewers of chicken heart, giblet and wings but for the less adventurous, there will also be prawn, pork belly, wagyu as well as vegetarian options like miso eggplant for vegetarians.
We recommend that you wash it all down with one of their Japanese draft beers, sake, whisky and cocktails (that’s what we would do). On the beer front, there’s all your faves, like Sapporo on tap and Asahi and Kirin by the bottle. For cocktails, they’ve put a Japanese spin on the classics and our pick is the sagroni. It’s something they’ve (very cleverly) made up themselves, with sake, Campari and vermouth making up their genius spin on a negroni. Seriously, we wish we’d thought of this one first.

Bar Demo
Bar Demo is a late-night vinyl bar in Newtown, designed for lovers of a well-crafted drink without the fuss. Owners Claudia Morgan and Olly Churcher (Ex-Double Deuce Lounge) are bartenders by trade, so there’s faith to be had in their curated 60-bottle wine list and seasonally crafted cocktails. The venue itself has grown from their joint experiences working and sipping in some of Sydney’s best bars—Morgan says “we wanted somewhere open late where we could buy a bottle without sitting down for a meal, sink some martinis, listen to some interesting music or have a dance”. Bar Demo certainly checks all of the boxes: open 5pm—midnight, Wednesday—Saturday, with no full kitchen but a dedicated menu for snacks, and a soundtrack of full albums played on vinyl, with each night featuring a curated selection of tunes.
