Kyoto’s cult vegan ramen house has landed in Sydney. Towzen has opened on Kent Street, bringing its much-loved soy-milk ramen and deeply rooted Zen dining philosophy to the CBD.
Founded in 2004 in Shimogamo (the quiet, temple-lined pocket of Kyoto) Towzen is one of Japan’s longest-running vegan ramen specialists. Their signature broth was born from a simple experiment: enriching a traditional tofu stock with soy milk, creating a creamy, savoury, entirely plant-based ramen that went on to define the restaurant’s identity.
Towzen’s Sydney outpost marks the brand’s third international opening, and like the original, the menu follows the principles of shōjin ryōri: a 13th-century Buddhist culinary tradition that is fully vegan and free from alliums. Every bowl is cooked to order, made with premium ingredients, and prepared using an olive-oil-based approach to keep things lighter and more sustainable.
This spot is highly sought after (as their first ever Australian branch), so we don't have to tell you twice: the queues are long, but very, very worth the wait.
