The Verdict
Went to See the Gypsy, founded by Mario Szucs and Will Smallbone (the masterminds behind Gypsy Espresso in Potts Point), is a massive hit with the locals in Alexandria. Located on Mitchell Road, you’ll be able to pop in for a cappuccino while you’re on a mid-morning hunt for antiques.
The interiors boast wooden ceilings and blonde wood seating, featuring a Brew Bar that stands-alone in the middle of the space. Patrons can witness the whole coffee process up close and personal watching their ‘coffee chemist’ Simon Gautherin whip up caffeinated goodness. If you're a sucker for a super delicious brew, the lineup here looks like cold brew coffee cherry skin and a salted pistachio espresso.
Expect a seasonally changing menu filled with fresh, local produce that’ll be enough to make you start salivating. But the real standouts are the banana loaf with coconut milk sorbet and salted caramel and the lunch win – miso-glazed salmon with wakame, cucumber and raw vegetable salad with furikake. Now's probably a good time to mention these guys also spin out a Golden Gaytime tiramisu as well.
