The verdict
Even the rice is imported from Japan in this CBD restaurant and sake bar. Just as it's a staple food in Japan, the rice takes centre-stage at Yayoi, where kinme, a polished rice that retains the nutrition of brown rice but has the sweetness of white rice, is steamed at your table for the perfect flavour.
Yayoi serves teishoku (tay-sho-ku), which means set meal: think the perfect balance of miso soup, meat or fish, side dishes of vegies and pickles and of course, steamed rice. This is the restaurant's first Australian outpost, but it has more than 400 locations around Japan and Asia, where it's known as Yayoi-ken.
