Big, no make that, massive news: Netflix has ordered a new Bridgerton spinoff series about young Queen Charlotte. That’s right, the Bridgerton universe is expanding which means we can just about (read: almost) forgive them for losing Regé-Jean Page in season two.
The news is hot off the press from Lady Whistledown herself, so grab a cup of tea and listen up, here’s everything you need to know about the exciting spinoff.
What Is The Bridgerton Spinoff About?
The all-new limited series will serve as a prequel to the Bridgerton world we know and love. Winding back the clock we will learn the origins of one of our fave characters—the uber sassy Queen Charlotte (played by Golda Rosheuvel). While the series will center on the rise and love life of a young Queen Charlotte (read: lots of juicy drama), it will also tell the stories of young Violet Bridgerton and Lady Danbury. Calling all the boss ladies to the front!
Who Is Cast In The Bridgerton Spinoff?
At this stage no one has been cast for the new series but given it’s a prequel, expect a slew of new faces to grace your screen. Is it just us or would Zendaya crush it as a young Queen Charlotte?
Who Will Write The Bridgerton Spinoff?
The queen herself, Shonda Rhimes, will write the series and serve as executive producer alongside Betsy Beers and Tom Verica so you absolutely know it’s in good hands.
“Many viewers had never known the story of Queen Charlotte before Bridgerton brought her to the world, and I’m thrilled this new series will further expand her story and the world of Bridgerton,” says Netflix head of global TV Bela Bajaria. “Shonda and her team are thoughtfully building out the Bridgerton universe so they can keep delivering for the fans with the same quality and style they love. And by planning and prepping all the upcoming seasons now, we also hope to keep up a pace that will keep even the most insatiable viewers totally fulfilled.”
When Will The Bridgerton Spinoff Drop?
This is the million dollar question! While season two of Bridgerton is currently being filmed and seasons three and four have been confirmed, we’re wondering when Shonda Rhimes will fit the spinoff into the filming schedule? But let’s be real, if anyone can do it, Rhimes is the one.
