At the moment, access to feminine hygiene is a privilege—but it really shouldn’t be. Period poverty, a term that references the lack of access to sanitary products, menstrual hygiene education, toilets, waste management, and handwashing facilities, is a reality for billions of women around the world.
As well as this, the cultural shame associated with menstruation for so many women around the world is a shame that goes well beyond finding the tampons tucked away at the back of the chemist where no one can see.
Aussie size-inclusive activewear label Active Truth is stepping up to support this cause right now, with a limited-edition collection created for Share the Dignity—a charity centred on helping those in crisis experiencing period poverty.
In tandem with Share the Dignity’s #Move4Dignity campaign across October—an epic fundraising initiative that encourages you to move in whatever way you can to help end period poverty—Active Truth has dropped a new set of tights, crop, and #Move4Dignity tee with 10% of sales going directly to Share the Dignity.
“Access to period products is a right, not a privilege. As a business run by, and for, women, this is a cause that we feel strongly about, as do our customers,” said Active Truth co-founder, Nadia Tucker.
“Share the Dignity is run on generosity from the community, so this year we asked both our communities to get involved in the campaign. We received over 600 applications from women wanting to model the [#Move4Dignity] collection—all wanting to play their part in making a difference We have 12 women from our communities starring in the campaign.”
