Brisbane/Meanjin has always been a city of morning people. After all, we’re the Sunshine State—it comes with the territory. But lately there’s been a new reason to rise before the rooster: coffee raves are popping up all over town and bringing together activewear-clad early birds who are grooving into their day.
Swapping martinis for matcha, coffee raves are the morning events inviting you to cafes and bakeries in Brisbane for music, bites and caffeine—all before midday. “Honestly, it came from wanting to shake up the usual morning routine,” said co-founder of Rise Bakery, Harry Ohayon. “We’re surrounded by a really active community in Newstead, people are training early, grabbing coffee, getting into their day. We thought, what if one Saturday morning a month could feel more like a celebration?”

The template? Sunrise parties sweeping Europe and AM Radio’s morning coffee sets in LA. “I saw AM Radio pop up in Los Angeles doing cool, creative events, and I thought if we had something like that here, I’d be there in a second—so we made it happen,” said owner and managing director of Venzin Group, Giorgina Venzin, who hosts ‘bakery raves’ with Bar Technicality at Darvella Patisserie. “You wake up, do your morning ritual, grab a coffee, rave it out, and go to bed early feeling amazing. What’s not to love?”
Coffee raves also lean into the club culture we’ve all been craving—and no, we don’t mean the doof doof kind. “We’ve been so deep in the digital era—scrolling, watching, messaging—that people are craving something real again,” said Daniella Boughen of AM Social. “We could see the space for something that felt high-vibe, community-led, and completely alcohol-free.”
