The allure of selvedge denim has long plagued many aspiring sartorial punters, the deep rich indigo and heavy starched feel all feed into the heuristics of the denim variant.
While the attraction of selvedge jeans remains, the heavy carbon footprint and excessive use of resources through its manufacturing is an ongoing issue.
Cue Country Road's latest announcement, the Australian clothing label is partnering up with Saitex in an attempt to craft a planet-friendly denim range.
“As part of our design strategy, we were determined to find and work with one of the most innovative denim mills in the world that’s committed to driving positive environmental and social change," says head of design for menswear, Chris Vogelpoel.
The collaboration between the certified B-Corp company and Country Road has resulted in a classic range of denim, coming in both standard and slim fits the initial options include the staple Dark Indigo, Mid Blue and Rich Raw.
They're each made up of 99% cotton with 1% stretch to allow for that needed give and also use 12.5 oz fabric for that heavier feel that's associated with selvedge style denim.
