Netflix’s New Thriller, The Woman In The Window Will Keep You Up At Night

There are few things we love more than an excellent book to big screen adaptation, and honestly, we reckon we’ve uncovered the best one yet. Enter: the highly anticipated, The Woman In The Window.

Originally slated for a big screen release last year, COVID delayed the premiere with Netflix swooping in to scoop up the rights. Which means we’ll now be able to catch this thriller from the comfort of our couch—with the lights on obvs.

What’s The Woman In The Window About?

If you’re not familiar with the novel by AJ Finn, the premise is straight up terrifying. Anna Fox is an agoraphobic psychologist who only gets glimpses of the outside world from the window of her townhouse or via Skype calls with her estranged husband and daughter. But when her neighbour Jane Russell, unexpectedly turns up on her doorstep looking for a shoulder to cry on (and to confide about her complicated family), Anna relents and finds herself opening up for the first time in years.

So far, so normal, right? This is where the story takes a dark turn. One night, when looking out her window, Anna sees Jane being brutally murdered in her home. But when she calls the police to report the crime, the story gets even darker. “Jane” turns up at Anna’s house with her husband Alistair—only it’s not the “Jane” that Anna knows. So, is Anna going crazy? Or did she really see her friend being murdered and this is just some wildly elaborate coverup?

Who Is Starring In The Woman In The Window?

This movie adaptation has been blessed with a seriously all-star cast. The incredible Amy Adams will take on the role of Anna—and we’re positive she’ll do this eerie character justice, just look at her turn in Sharp Objects as proof. Starring opposite Adams as the OG/potentially imaginary Jane is Julianne Moore. What a duo!

Rounding out the cast is Marvel’s Anthony Mackie as Anna’s estranged husband Ed Fox, Gary Oldman as Jane’s husband Alistar and Brian Tyree Henry as Detective Little.

Oh and did we mention the flick is being produced by the same studio that made Gone Girl.

When Will The Woman In The Window Air?

The thriller will drop at 5pm AEST on 14 May, so mark your diaries now!
