Finding the right skincare routine that works for you is hard—and that’s before you even start listening to all the beauty blogs spruiking endless serums, tools, creams and more. But how do you know what’s going to work for you, without constantly trying new products? Well, you get custom formulated skincare created just for your skin and no one else’s, from prescription skincare company, Software. Because let’s face it—do you really know whether you should be using retinoids, azelaic acid, niacinamide, hyaluronic acid and the rest?
This new Aussie skincare company is making bespoke prescription skincare quicker, easier and cheaper to get your hands on than ever before. You don’t even have to go to a doctor to get a prescription—you just complete Software’s online questionnaire about your skin, age and skin concerns, and they’ll send your specially formulated product straight to your door for only $44 a month. Plus, you’ll receive ongoing support to improve your skin over time with their medical team on-hand offering advice and regular check-ups.
The best part? You don’t need to layer on multiple products, serums or creams to target all those skincare concerns—you only need one prescription cream, along with your skincare routine basics. Dr Emma Mooney, a consultant dermatologist at Software, says you only really need three other items in your skincare routine—it’s better for your skin and your budget.
Cleanser
First up, you need a gentle cleanser, especially if you wear make up. Even if not, your skin is exposed to a lot of pollutants and other grime throughout the course of the day, while oil and dead skin cells can also pile up and block your pores (not to mention the bacteria you can collect from your pillowcase overnight—gross). So it’s important to cleanse both morning and night to keep your skin fresh and clear.
Moisturiser
You probably consider moisturiser as an essential step for everyone, right? Well actually, Mooney says a moisturiser is important for most people—but not all. If your skin produces enough sebum, and you’re drinking plenty of water, you may actually not need it at all, especially if you’re using a very gentle cleanser. However, for people with dry skin, moisturiser is an essential evening step.
Sunscreen
Finally, sunscreen—although Mooney considers this THE most important step. "The most important agent is, without doubt, a good, broad-spectrum sunscreen—one that you are comfortable wearing every day," she says. So stop putting it off and get yourself a decent sunscreen to slather on every morning, because your mum was right all along.
If you want to make your life even easier, you can add Software’s own cleanser, moisturiser and sunscreen collection onto your prescription skincare.
