46 Of The Best Shows And Movies On Disney Plus Australia (August 2026 Edition)
Seems a bit first-world problems to complain… but there is legit too much choice on Disney Plus nowadays. From our favourite childhood animated classics and their love-it-or-hate-it live-action remakes to action-packed thrillers, docos, and superhero blockbusters, there’s literally something for every kind of mood.
But, with great choice comes great streaming choice paralysis… So to save you the hassle and any potential sofa squabbles with your housemates, significant other, or general famalam, we’ve put together some of the top movies to watch on Disney Plus Australia in August 2026. You’re so very welcome.
The Devil Wears Prada 2
If you missed it at the cinema, or just couldn’t be bothered to pay to watch something you could stream from home soon enough…you’ll be thrilled to know that The Devil Wears Prada 2 has finally dropped on Disney+. And just in case you’ve been in a coma and missed all the press and socials on this when it first graced the silver screen, the long-awaited sequel catches up with all your favourites from the original movie, but decades later, at very different points in their careers. Essentially, Andy returns to Runway to try and save the now-at-risk magazine that’s struggling in the digital era. If you’re here strictly for the comforting rom-com redemption vibes of the first movie, you might be disappointed. But if you want to see something with a bit more of a real-world satirical edge with decent performances from Streep, Hathaway, Tucci, and Blunt, then get streaming.

The Devil Wears Prada
With the decades-long wait for the sequel to this iconic 2006 movie now in cinemas across Australia, it’s the perfect time to reacquaint yourself with the original for the bajillionth time. If you haven’t seen it, we assume you’re new to planet Earth… so let us fill you in on the gist very quickly. Basically, a so-not-stylish journalism graduate lands a job as an assistant to a nightmare-boss editor of a high-profile fashion magazine. And, as she gets caught up in the demanding and soul-crushing world of haute couture, her life and relationships fall apart. But, with a bit of underdog grit and some personal growth on both sides, things come out good in the end. It’s a glossy yet weirdly relatable movie that captured an entire generation, mostly because Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt are utterly fabulous in it.
Rivals
Fancy some chaotic and deliberately absurd escapism with plenty of over-the-top 1980s fashion and melodrama? Starring David Tennant, this adaptation of Dame Jilly Cooper’s bestselling novel is a racy comedy-drama about the bitter and long-running feud between two powerful men. Think big shoulder pads, bigger hair, sharp dialogue, and some boundary-pushing sex scenes. Enjoy.
Malcolm In The Middle: Life’s Still Unfair
If you grew up in the nineties and noughties, you’re probably very familiar with the original version of this show (and were subsequently traumatised when you eventually saw Breaking Bad). And, just like most shows from that era, Malcolm In The Middle is getting a decades-later reboot miniseries. Unlike most reboots, this one does a decent job of combining the chaos of the original with a bit of character growth. It’s a hard balance to strike, but it generally hits the mark. So it might not be exactly what you remember… but that’s probably a good thing given that you’re now a fully fledged adult with a slightly more sophisticated taste in TV.
Gary
If you’re a fan of The Bear, you absolutely need to see this surprise prequel episode that follows cousin Richie and Mikey on a chaotic road trip from Chicago to Gary, Indiana. Expect all the grittiness of The Bear, along with the familiar blend of anxiety and melancholy you know and love. Critics and fans have gone nuts for this one already, and you can expect a few twists and turns in the story, too.
Dear Killer Nannies
Donna Hay: Coastal Celebrations
The Eighth Family
This offbeat Turkish comedy‑drama follows a family whose bulletproof thermal underwear brand propels them into global influence and power. But with six very different siblings at the helm, things quickly get pretty chaotic — on the business and personal front. It’s absurd, satirical, and leans heavily into its exaggerated humour. Imagine Succession but Turkish and with none of the heaviness.
Cougar Town
This is certainly not new, but if you’re after a comfy show you can put on in the background and dip in and out of while you cook or scroll, it’s a decent option. As the name suggests, the show started off being about a recently divorced woman (played by Courteney Cox) trying to get back out there by dating younger men. But for whatever reason, it quickly evolved into a sitcom about friendship and drinking wine with your neighbours. Basically, it’s a slightly more grown-up yet sillier version of Friends with wine instead of coffee and a cul-de-sac in Florida instead of unrealistically spacious New York apartments. It’s warm, silly, and won’t take up too many brain cells. Enjoy.
Zootopia 2
In the mood for a family-friendly movie about a rabbit cop and a sly fox detective? This smash-hit sequel to Zootopia (go figure) has all the voices you know and love from the first movie (Ginnifer Goodwin, Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and Shakira), along with the same lovely blend of comedy, mystery, heartwarming moments, and adventure. Don’t think too much about it, just put it on, relax, and let yourself slip away into a carefree land where animals solve crimes, and the world’s not falling apart. You can thank us later.
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives
If you can’t get enough reality TV, this one’s for you. It follows a bunch of Mormon mothers and TikTok influencers in Utah, also known as ‘MomTok’. The first series started in the wake of a scandal involving apparent ‘soft-swinging’ between Mormon couples. And now, in its fourth season, the soap-style drama continues in the messy, ridiculous, and just-can’t-look-away format that we’ve grown to know and love. Season 4 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives is availabl
Scrubs (Reboot)
This noughties medical comedy drama was huge and pretty darn enjoyable way back when. And, like most things these days, it’s making a comeback in the form of a reboot. We’ll be honest, it’s not going to light your world on fire. It’s kind of like a more subdued and slower-paced version of the original, and all your favourite characters just look a bit thinner and more tired. But, if you love a good nostalgia-binge, it’ll keep you company on rainy weeknights. The new series of Scrubs premiered in Australia on February 26, with new episodes dropping every Wednesday.
Paradise (Season 2)
The Muppet Show
To celebrate a whopping 50 years of The Muppets, the old gang — including Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and Gonzo — unite in a TV special filled with comedy sketches, music, and plenty of backstage chaos. Seth Rogen and Maya Rudolph star in this one, with special musical guest Sabrina Carpenter joining in the fun, too. So if you want something family-friendly, light, and not too long, this is a good shout.
Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette
This limited series is part of FX’s Love Story anthology. Chronicling the whirlwind romance of — you guessed it — John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, it’s a romantic drama with all sorts of ups and downs and plenty to say about 1990s celebrity culture. So, if you like biographical dramas about high-profile celebrities and the pressures of fame, this one’s for you. The first three episodes dropped on 13 February 2026, and you can catch brand-new episodes every week until the season finale in late March.
Wonder Man
Forget everything you know about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and get ready for a tongue-in-cheek satire about fame and the Hollywood industry. Following an aspiring actor who gains superpowers and his unlikely friendship with a veteran actor (played by Ben Kingsley), it has been widely praised for its character depth, humour, and strong performances. All eight episodes are available to stream now. If you just want wall-to-wall superhero action, this is not for you. But if you like personal drama and satire with a small side of superhero vibes, then it’s worth checking Wonder Man out.
Ella McCay
Although it’s largely billed as a political dramedy, Ella McCay also has elements of romance and family comedy, too. Set in 2008, the movie follows an idealistic lieutenant governor who must balance a chaotic personal life, a scandal about her husband, and unresolved issues with her estranged father as she’s unexpectedly thrust into the top dog role of governor. It has a decent cast, including Woody Harrelson and Jamie Lee Curtis, but don’t let that fool you into thinking this is more than a no-brain-power-required, second-screen film to get you through the week. Keep your expectations low, and she’ll be right.
The Beauty
Based on the Image Comics graphic novel, this latest series in the Ryan Murphy universe blends sci-fi vibes with body horror. It’s set in a not-so-distant future where a sexually transmitted treatment gives people extraordinary beauty and physical perfection, but at a deadly cost. And, when supermodels start dying under mysterious circumstances, two FBI agents must travel the globe to find out why. Far-fetched, gruesome, and with plenty of intriguing conspiracies, it’s exactly what you’d expect from a Ryan Murphy series. The first three episodes dropped on January 22, with new episodes following weekly.
The Artful Dodger (Season 2)
The Artful Dodger is back, and this time, Jack’s luck is seriously running out. He’s staring down the noose, dodging Port Victory’s ruthless new lawman, Inspector Boxer, and risking it all for Lady Belle. Saddle up for a season packed with love triangles, a killer on the loose, and Fagin pulling Jack into his most dangerous heist yet. New faces, romance, betrayal, and even more high-stakes chaos await when the drama returns on 10 February, only on Disney+.
Bob’s Burgers (Season 16)
This long-running animated comedy series follows a third-generation burger chef who balances running a modest restaurant with family life. It blends warm family dynamics with quirky and absurd side plots. So, if you want something easy to watch in the evenings, this will certainly do the trick. You can watch Seasons 1 - 15 in full right now, and catch brand new episodes of Season 16 as they drop weekly from 17 December 2025.
Tell Me Lies (Season 3)
Tell Me Lies follows the turbulent and obsessive relationship between two college students over the course of eight years. Think control, betrayal, and emotional manipulation rolled into an intense connection. Fans love it for being addictive and emotionally compelling, but beware — it portrays a pretty toxic relationship. Seasons 1 and 2 premiered in 2022 and 2024, respectively. And if you’re already caught up on all the drama, you can enjoy Season 3 of Tell Me Lies from 13 January 2026.
Pole To Pole With Will Smith
Abbott Elementary
Can’t get enough of mockumentary-style comedies? We don’t blame you. If you haven’t already gotten around to this one, the award-winning Abbott Elementary should probably be on your list. Season 5 just dropped on Disney Plus Australia, but if you haven’t seen seasons 1-4, imagine The Office was set in an underfunded elementary school, and you’ve got the gist of it. Funny, warm, and easy to watch — enjoy.
I Am Boxer
If you liked Physical 100, you should probably check out I Am Boxer. This Korean competition show throws 90 of the fiercest fighters from all kinds of ages, backgrounds, weights, and professions into one savage survival competition. As you can probably guess, the rules are a bit bonkers, and the showdowns are insane. Not for the faint-hearted, but if you enjoy this kind of thing, this one should pack a punch (sorry, couldn’t resist).
Taylor Swift: The End of an Era
If you’re a Swiftie or live in the vicinity of one, chances are you’ve been eagerly awaiting this 6-part docuseries chronicling her spectacular Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour. Blending concert footage and immersive cinematography with behind-the-scenes insights and appearances from family members, friends, and famous faces like Sabrina Carpenter and Ed Sheeran, it’s everything any Taylor Swift fan could dream of and more. Taylor Swift: The End of an Era is available to stream from 12 December 2025, with two episodes airing weekly until the finale on Dec. 26. Oh, and Travis Kelce is due to make an appearance too (in case you were concerned).
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw
After a fun and family-friendly animation for the festive season? Try the latest in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie series. If you’ve seen the previous movies or enjoyed the books, great. But if you’re new to these characters, you can still enjoy it as a standalone movie. The story follows middle-schooler Greg Heffley as he navigates school, family life, and awkward social situations while simultaneously trying to prove himself to his overbearing dad. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Last Straw is available to stream from 5 December 2025. And, if you’re a fan of chaotic misadventures, harmless humour, and relatable adolescent dilemmas, you’ll probably enjoy this one.
Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember
This isn’t your average, light-hearted me-and-my-family on a road trip doco. Instead, it’s incredibly moving and deeply personal. The documentary follows Aussie actor and Hollywood superstar Chris Hemsworth on a motorbike road trip across Australia. But, as his father has been diagnosed with early‑stage Alzheimer’s, it’s less about showcasing travel hotspots and more about revisiting meaningful places and exploring the power of memories, social connection, and reminiscence therapy (guided by psychologist Dr Suraj Samtani) as a way to combat the heartbreaking symptoms of his condition. Have your tissues at the ready; this will be equal parts inspirational and emotional. Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember is available to stream from 24 November 2025.
The Roses
In the mood for a comedy drama starring some of the best British actors of the last couple of decades? Based on the 1989 movie The War of the Roses (starring Danny DeVito, Michael Douglas, and Kathleen, The War of the Roses), The Roses follows a seemingly perfect couple — played by Olivia Colman and Benedict Cumberbatch — as their relationship totally unravels. It’s chaotic and darkly funny. Think manipulative pranks, resentment-fuelled conflict, jealousy, and then some. So, if that sounds fun to you, you can stream The Roses from 20 November 2025.
Last Christmas
It’s never too early to get in the festive spirit with a Christmas flick. Written by Emma Thompson (among others), the story follows a disenchanted Christmas store worker whose life takes a turn when she meets a wonderful and mysterious man. With a George Michael-heavy soundtrack (duh), it’s giving us London romance with a side of humour and some emotional depth. It’s definitely not going to change your life or make any all-time greatest Christmas movie lists, but it’s a cosy film you can relax to with popcorn and/or a glass of wine.
The Kardashians
You either love this show or avoid it like the plague. And if you fall into the former category, you’ll be pleased to know that Season 7 (at least of this incarnation of the family’s reality show empire) is already well underway. From health scares and facelifts to appearances by Rob Kardashian and Caitlyn Jenner (oh my), you can expect access to all sorts of drama this season. Season 7 of The Kardashians premiered on 23 October 2025, with brand-new episodes dropping weekly.
Murdaugh: Death in the Family
All’s Fair
Kim K and Ryan Murphy fans have been excited about this one for a while. A follow-up to Kim Kardashian’s first major acting role in American Horror Story, All’s Fair is a glamorous, high-stakes legal thriller about a group of high-powered female divorce lawyers who leave a male-dominated firm to launch their own practice. Starring Kim K (duh) along with Naomi Watts, Niecy Nash, Sarah Paulson and Glenn Close, it explores the trials (pun intended) and tribulations as scandalous secrets, vicious dicorves and internal power struggles challenge these women on every level. All’s Fair premieres on Disney Plus Australia on November 4, 2025, with new episodes released weekly.
Chad Powers
Ever wondered what Mrs Doubtfire would have been like if Robin Williams was trying to resurrect a sporting career after public humiliation instead of spending quality time with family? Well, wonder no more because that’s exactly what you can expect with the brand new comedy drama, Chad Powers. After a high-profile meltdown, disgraced college football star Russ Holliday (played by Glen Powell) comes up with an entirely new persona and attempts to revive his career in a ridiculous disguise. Satirical, ridiculous, and with a heartwarming redemption arc, it’s a fun and fuzzy comedy you can relax to. The first two episodes of Chad Powers premiered on September 30, with new episodes dropping every Tuesday.
9-1-1 Nashville
Looking for a new first responder procedural drama to get your teeth stuck into? This latest spin-off of Ryan Murphy’s 9-1-1 franchise follows firefighters, paramedics, and police officers as they deal with life-threatening situations in Nashville. Blending character-driven drama with high-stakes emergencies and a southern twist, it’s essentially Station 19 meets Nashville meets Friday Night Lights. The first episode of 9-1-1 Nashville dropped in Australia on October 10, with new episodes released weekly.
Swiped
If you didn’t already know that the woman who created Bumble was also part of the team that created Tinder, now you do. And, essentially, that’s all you need to know before you watch Swiped. Following the true story of Whitney Wolfe Herd, it explores her experience in a toxic and male-dominated workplace, which ultimately inspires her to strike out on her own and start a female-focused dating app. Critics gave this movie mixed reviews, with some finding it too glossy and others claiming it played it too safe. But if you’re fascinated by start-up culture, love stories about female empowerment, or want to see Lily James put in a decent performance, it’s an enjoyable film that’ll help you kill a couple of hours.
The Man In My Basement
Starring Corey Hawkins and Willem Dafoe, The Man in My Basement follows the story of Charles Blakey, a down-on-his-luck black man in 1990s Sag Harbor who rents his basement out to a mysterious white businessman to make ends meet. The businessman agrees to pay Charles enough money to clear his debts and save his family home, but there’s one condition — Charles must tend to his every need. What’s admittedly a pretty creepy condition to begin with turns into a tense standoff, complete with dark secrets, power struggles, moral compromises, and racial tension. This isn’t a switch-your-brain-off kind of movie, but if you’re in the mood for an intense psychological thriller, go for gold.
Only Murders in the Building (Season 5)
Series
If you haven’t already smashed seasons 1-4 of Only Murders in the Building, we are both astonished and jealous. For those of you yet to experience the joy, the story follows three very different New York neighbours who bond over playing amateur-sleuths-cum-podcast-producers for murders that keep happening in their building. For those of you who have already smashed the first four instalments, Season 5 of Only Murders in the Building premiered on Tuesday, September 10, with new episodes coming every Tuesday until the season finale on October 28. Expect your favourite series regulars, plus some amazing guest stars like Renée Zellweger, Keegan-Michael Key, Bobby Cannavale, and Christoph Waltz.
Lilo & Stitch
Movie
Not all Disney remakes are created equal. So if you’ve been waiting for the 2025 live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch to make it onto Disney Plus instead of traipsing to the cinema, we totally get it. If you never saw the 2002 original, the story follows a young girl in Hawaiʻi (Lilo) who accidentally adopts a mischievous alien (Stitch) instead of a dog. Stitch’s erratic behaviour causes all sorts of problems for Lilo, whose family is under the watchful eye of social services. But, as Stitch’s freedom and life on earth come into jeopardy, they must fight together to save him. Think sweet family comedy drama with plenty of chaos.
Thunderbolts* *The New Avengers
Movie
Love all things Marvel? Or just can’t resist a good anti-hero story? Either way, you’ll probably enjoy Thunderbolts* *The New Avengers. As you may have already guessed, it’s about a rag-tag group of unlikely superheroes who band together on a deadly mission. Expect fast-paced action, big names (like Florence Pugh and Julia Louis-Dreyfus), and some comedy thrown in for good measure. Oh, and don’t forget to wait for the obligatory post-credits scene, too.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox
Series
Most people reading this would have already guessed from the title that this is a true crime biographical drama. But, for the extremely young among us… Amanda Knox shot to global fame in 2007 when she was accused of murdering her British roommate while studying as an American exchange student in Italy. On the off-chance that you really don’t know what happened in this fascinating yet brutal case, we’ll just say that it went on for several years with plenty of twists and turns along the way. You can catch the first few episodes of The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox now, with new episodes released weekly.
Freaky Friday
Movie
Up for a bit of early noughties nostalgia to wash away the winter blues? Or just want to re-watch the original before heading to the cinema for the inevitably cheesy and probably so-bad-it’s-good sequel, Freakier Friday? Either way, the body-swapping classic starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis is available to stream now. So grab your doona, stock up on snacks, and enjoy this dumb but fun classic!
Haven't jumped on the Disney+ bandwagon yet? Here's why you should.
