Pizza can be polarising. Thick crust or thin and crispy? Melted-all-over mozzarella or delicately placed fior di latte? Whatever your preference, one thing is certain: pizza needs to taste authentic, with just one bite taking you back to a classic Euro summer in Naples, or the buzz of a night out in New York City.

From deep pan to neo-Neapolitan, here are the best pizza restaurants in Adelaide to sink your teeth into. Bellissimo!

Tony Tomatoes

55-157 O'Connell St, North Adelaide

A North Adelaide icon, Tony Tomatoes is a popular Italian pizzeria and casual restaurant located on the uber-trendy O’Connell Street. Winner of Adelaide’s Best Pizza in 2024, Tony’s tray-baked Roman pizzas even come with a “high protein” flour for its 72-hour classic base. Classic toppings include Margherita and Capricciosa, while its unique Mr Pig – broccoli, pork fennel sausage and fior di latte – is one a must-try.

Did someone say “Pizza Party?” Sunny’s Pizza, planted in the city’s vibrant West End, offers a neon-lit, retro Italian diner atmosphere for its loyal clientele. The vibey establishment’s range of creative pizzas come toppings like San Marzano tomato, mozzarella, eggplant parmigiana, pork & fennel sausage, chargrilled pineapple with chilli verde, and more. They also offer vegan cheese and gluten-free bases.

Just outside of Adelaide, is Pizzateca — a beloved pizza destination in the McLaren Vale wine region. Known for its Neapolitan-style wood-fired pizzas, popular styles include classic Marinara, Margherita, Salami, Bianco, and Quattro Formaggi, all using fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Best of all, this restaurant’s charmingly rustic setting is perfect for a weekend date or day out with the family.

The Parlor Pizza

The Parlor Pizza is a modern American-style pizza place located in the heart of the CBD. Known for its New York–inspired thin-crust pizzas, it serves both whole pies and individual slices – the Spicy ‘Roni tastes as good as its name sounds – bringing an authentic U.S. pizza experience to locals. It also had a full refurb recently, making it a chic place to eat some of the best pizza in the City of Churches.

Anchovy Bandit

Named after an unpublished early screenplay written by a pre-teen Quentin Tarantino called “Captain Peachfuzz and The Anchovy Bandit” – the story of a superhero who fights off a pizza burglar – Anchovy Bandit is a Neapolitan-inspired pizzeria and cocktail bar located in the up-and-coming Prospect area. You gotta try their signature pizza– Olasagasti anchovy, potato, and smoked scamorza, topped with pickled chilli.

Francesca’s

Various locations

Adelaide’s best pizza on the coast has to go to Francesca’s. With two prime locations in Brighton and Glenelg – both dressed in Francesca’s white and sky blue – locals in the west flock here for traditional Neapolitan wood-fired pizzas with airy crusts and quality toppings, and Sicilian-style pizzas with thicker, crunchy edges. Francesca’s also does a convenient Pizza a portafoglio or “wallet pizza” — a smaller, folded pizza you can eat on the go.

Etica

125 Gilles St, Adelaide

Another CBD pizza mecca is Etica – which literally means ethical – a casual Italian-style restaurant which focuses on locally sourced ingredients and high animal welfare standards where meat is used. More than that, Etica offers pizzas with certification from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, meaning they follow traditional Naples-style pizza methods and ingredients like San Marzano tomatoes and fior di latte. A literal slice of Italy in Adelaide.

Pizza e Mozzarella Bar

Pizza e Mozzarella Bar is a rustic Italian-inspired wood-fired pizza restaurant known for its authentic Southern Italian flavours, and relaxed vibe. But the pizza here is the main event: the Spicy Calabrese or the Funghi with porcini mushrooms and grana padano are must-haves. And for dessert: the Pistachio Cream Pizza, topped with even more pistachios. Buonissimo!

Falcone

58 Melbourne St, North Adelaide

The new kid on the North Adelaide pizza block, Falcone officially opened its doors in February. Serving up Neopolitan-style pizzas with a sophisticated spin (think melt-in-your mouth Margheritas and Capriciosas), it’s the namesake pizza, the Falcone – marinated prawns and garlic butter – that’s a must try. Falcone even sells crust dips so not an inch of that pizza goes to waste.

Rocc Up Pizza

55 Gilbert Street, Adelaide

Founded by Scottish chef Jamie Bennie, Rocc Up Pizza (part of the famed Gozney Pizza Collective) is a CBD-based pizzeria serving up East Coast-style, thin-crust pizzas with a smoky char and high-quality ingredients, all on a three-day fermented sourdough base. You can’t go past pizza toppings classics such as pepperoni and margherita, as well as the signature Satriale – pork and fennel sausage, sopressa, pomodoro, and mozzarella cheese, with a drizzling of hot honey. As the name suggests, simply rock up, and taste for yourself.
