The team behind one of the Gold Coast’s most beloved dining institutions has officially opened the doors to its new baby—literally.
BabyMama is Mamasan’s chic little sister restaurant now open in Mermaid Beach, plating up bold East Asian flavours in a moody, intimate venue.

BabyMama was born out of the Mamasan’s team desire to create a space that would allow them to stay connected to their community, while Mamasan temporarily closes to undergo a major renovation. Yes, we’ll have more on that soon.
However, rest assured that BabyMama is far from just a pop-up venue. It’s a considered evolution of its predecessor—carrying the spirit of Mamasan while carving out a distinct identity of its own in the Mermaid Beach dining scene.

Owners Lauren and JP Duitsch have created a venue that feels like a natural evolution of the Mamasan story, rooted in the same bold flavour and design-forward ethos but given room to experiment.
“BabyMama is our way of keeping the Mamasan spirit alive while we create something really special behind the scenes in Broadbeach,” they say. “It’s a fresh space with the same heart, and we’re so excited to welcome guests into something that feels both familiar and new.”
Step inside BabyMama and the vibe hits instantly. The intimate space strikes a refined balance between moody and welcoming—think soft lighting, warm timber, quilted leather banquettes and statement pendant lights that set the tone just right.

The open bar brimming with top-shelf spirits is the heart of the room, beckoning you to stay—and stay for a while. Polished concrete floors are contrasted by sleek tiled finishes; BabyMama is perfect for everything from cosy date nights to long, lazy lunches with your crew.
The menu delivers everything you love about Mamasan’s iconic East Asian flavour profile, with a curated edit of crowd favourites alongside inventive new creations from Executive Chef Sebastian Tan, who brings 18 years of global experience in acclaimed kitchens including Hakkasan and Crown’s Silks.

New to the BabyMama menu are standout plates like the Sichuan burrata served with housemade chilli crisp, roasted sesame paste and Chinese doughnut; scallop and prawn brioche toast with citrus mayo; and 72-hour roasted duck pancakes, served with traditional accompaniments. On the dessert front, the deep-fried icecream with panko crumb and chocolate soy sauce is not to be missed.

Chef Tan’s inventive new creations sit alongside Mamasan cult classics like the spanner crab tortellini dumplings, 12-hour braised Wagyu red curry and the ever-craveable Mamasan KFC—because some things just can’t be left off the table.
The drinks program is just as thoughtful. A premium sake list and rotating wine selection (available by the glass thanks to Coravin) are joined by signature cocktails like the elegant blood orange Paloma, Wagyu fat-washed Old Fashioned and a punchy house favourite, Big Mama.

While it’s yet to be confirmed how long BabyMama will stay in Mermaid Beach, it’s a seamless fit for a precinct that’s quickly cementing itself as one of the Gold Coast’s most exciting dining destinations.
