When someone asks you to name the best restaurant on the Gold Coast, there’s always a special few that come to mind—and one of them is undoubtedly Labart. So when we found out the fine dining legends are set to open Paloma Wine Bar on James Street in Burleigh next month, we just had to share the good news.
Since swinging open its doors on West Street back in 2018, Labart has garnered a legion of fans (including an Australian Good Food Guide Hat) thanks to their impeccable service, the ever changing and always amazing menu and the general good vibes that make the place so damn special. So it should come as no surprise that Paloma is going to be equally epic
Taking over the former Burleigh Bar & Bites site, the space has been completely transformed. Designed entirely by Labart owners Alex and Karla Munoz Labart, the space oozes coastal cool, with the interiors reflecting the colours of the ocean, sand and sun. Think: marine blue leather banquettes, ocean green tiles, sandy white walls and glass pendant lights hand blown in Currumbin by local brand Soktas. Yep, you and your mates are going to be very happy to while away the day here.
But onto the part you all want to know about—the booze. The relaxed, neighbourhood-style bar will boast an extensive wine list with a special focus on championing unique Australian and international producers and a strong focus on minimal intervention methods. Read: juicy Pet Nats. Our favourite bit? The broad by the glass selection will give you the chance to taste different varietals, discover exciting winemakers and potentially find a new favourite tipple. Keen on cocktails? The Paloma team will also be serving classic cocktails as well as a selection of seasonal signatures. We’re crossing our fingers that the Labart yuzu margarita makes an appearance.
And while Paloma is first and foremost a wine bar, Labart stans will be pleased to know that Chef Alex Munoz Labart and his team will deliver a short seasonal menu of small plates with a European influence. Get ready to devour tasty dishes like smoked mussels on toast, beef tartare and due to overwhelming demand, Labart’s famous lockdown ‘La Burger’ will return.
Owner and Chef Alex Munoz Labart says of the new venture, “Paloma is a neighbourhood wine bar. Pop in for a pre or post-dinner drink or come early and settle in for the night. We want you to treat it as your own, get to know our team and make it your home away from home. Just like Labart, our sole purpose is to make people happy’.
We’ll drink to that! And before you ask, it’s walk-ins only—so fire up that group chat and get your diaries in order.
