Want to see the likes of Billie Eilish performing in our backyard? How about snagging a front row seat to the heart-stopping action of Monster Trucks Live, or earning fave parent status by taking the minis to Disney on Ice?
Forget having to slog it up the M1 or jumping on a flight down south to make that happen, because the Gold Coast is scoring a truly epic indoor entertainment venue—one that will draw all of the incredible international talent above (and more) to our sunny shores. And to ensure this vibing new hub is giving Coasties all they desire, the City of Gold Coast wants your input with a super simple survey. Keen for a comedy festival? Want local food trucks slinging international eats at your next concert? Dying to see your fave basketball team live in action? Spill it! And to thank you for your time, you’ll go into the draw to win a cheeky $250 voucher.
So where is this unreal spot going to be? Sitting pretty on the Broadwater, Carey Park in Southport is the proposed location for the new entertainment mecca. The future locale has three light rail stations in easy stolling distance, plus buses and a ferry nearby, so you can indulge in a pre or post-show tipple or two at one of the awesome bars and restaurants nearby. Think: a spritz and bowl of moreish pasta at Mozza Mozza or share plates and cocktails at Mr P.Ps Rooftop.
The GC has been crying out for a mid-sized indoor venue (for audiences of 8000 to 12,000 people), and this beauty will deliver, transforming the city’s entertainment experience and putting our slice of paradise on the map of international and national touring schedules.
The purpose-built arena will be a multipurpose space catering for up to 80 big name performances and events every year—from international music concerts and comedy shows to family entertainment and sports grand finals in basketball, netball, boxing and mixed martial arts. That’s a seriously stacked social cal in our future friends.
Plus, the precinct will generate some serious cash for our economy (an estimated $1.5 billion over 10 years) and create up to 740 full time jobs for Coasties. We dig that!
There’s no doubt about it, the proposed venue is going to change the face and future of the GC’s entertainment scene—so make sure you have your say.
