Track Closed Ahead: Essential Travel Tips for Anyone Using Queensland Rail This April
South East Queensland’s train network is about to receive a once-in-a-generation upgrade that will level up our public transport in a major way. Whilst there might not be a perfect time for railway delays to occur, these works have been scheduled during the school holiday period, when commuter volumes slightly decrease.
And if you’re a regular QR passenger, don’t fret. Translink will be enlisting the support of buses to replace the train lines affected during this period.
If you’re choo-choo-choosing to travel to major events (read: football games, concerts or festivals) during April via public transport, you’ll need to do a little bit of extra recon to make sure you can get where you need to be on time.
We recommend checking the Translink website for the most up-to-date information before you travel, but to help you plan, we’ve drilled down on all the essential details.
When Will The Track Closures Occur?
Track works are scheduled to operate across the network between the 3rd and the 26th of April.
What Are They Working On?
There are multiple projects underway for the rail network that these track works will advance, namely the Cross River Rail, Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail, Loganlea Station Relocation, and general track maintenance.
Which Lines Will Be Affected?
Between Friday 3rd April and Saturday 11th April, there will be major track closures affecting the below lines:
- Sunshine Coast
- Caboolture
- Redcliffe
- Doomben
- Shorncliffe
- Airport
- Gold Coast
- Beenleigh
From Sunday 12th April to Sunday 26th April, only the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines will be experiencing track closures.
The timetable impacts differ for each line, so for more information on your particular journey, check out the service updates page.

Should I Still Take The Train For My Regular Commutes Or Events In April?
For certain trips to and from the city, a bus might be the better choice. Regular bus services will operate as normal, but if your journey needs to include rail travel, you’ll find express and all-stop rail buses at the ready to close any gaps. The Journey Planner will be your best friend when it comes to planning ahead.
I’m Going To The Footy, How Will I Get There?
With the upcoming Titans-Broncos game at CBus Super Stadium on April 4th, and the Broncos-Cowboy game at Suncorp Stadium on April 10, you might be wondering how best to travel to and from your big night out.
Public transport remains your best option, and there will be surplus event buses on the road (along with helpful staff at convenient touchpoints) to ensure that all footy-goers are catered to.
You’ll want to ensure you factor in some extra travel time to accommodate the replacement services, so you have plenty of time to navigate them and travel safely to and from your event.
