Since day one, Strange Days has been Tweed’s blast from the past thanks to its curated vintage range and old school Americana style. So, it only makes sense that their new offering is similarly nostalgic in Sweethearts Milk Bar.
Inspired by roadside diners and retro milk bars, Sweethearts will serve as a pitstop decked out in vintage Coca-Cola signs and mid-century details. “I’ve spent a long time collecting original vintage pieces, many of which probably did live in an American diner at some point,” said Sylvie Cornu. “We wanted it to feel like one of those places you’d make a detour for on a road trip; somewhere you can grab endless coffee, hunt for vintage treasures, and leave with a Photo Booth strip as a little keepsake.”
The tight and thoughtful menu will have snacks like locally baked pretzels, housemade dips and other baked goods. But it’s the drinks in particular that we’re excited about because where else can you get a $3 Hot Cup o’ Joe—a slow-brewed diner-style coffee with free refills?
Sweethearts Milk Bar will be pouring Nitrous Cold Brew Coffee and Actually Good Matcha (aka Burleigh’s new matcha window) served over ice with your choice of milk and sweetener. There will also be dirty sodas with cream and fresh fruit, with a new seasonal twist every week worth making this one a regular visit.
“Our biggest hope is that Sweethearts feels like a natural extension of Strange Days and the amazing community that’s grown around it,” said Cornu. “A cosy little bar where people feel welcome, conversations happen naturally, and nobody feels rushed or judged because they are wearing a 1960’s cheerleading dress owned by their grandma and styled to vintage perfection.”
