All The Best Sunday Roasts In Hobart Worth Digging Into This Autumn (2026 Edition)

Picture a dreamy Sunday. You’re settled in at a cosy pub, maybe beside a crackling fire, possibly with a dark beer or glass of wine in-hand, and you’re about to tuck into a roast. Golden-brown Yorkshire puddings catch the hot gravy as it drips from tender meat, pooling around roast veg and crispy-edged potatoes. It’s a plate of happiness. You’re warm from the inside and life feels perfect.

When it comes to Sunday roasts, we don’t want twists, elevation or deconstructed gastronomy. The simplicity is its beauty. It’s a classic. And you don’t mess with a classic.

Here are the best Sunday roasts in Hobart to soothe the soul in 2026.

The Crescent

100 Burnett Street, North Hobart

This restored historic pub keeps tradition in its mock-Tudor bones. The Crescent is known for its elevated pub grub, classics executed with that little extra flourish, and the Sunday Roast is no exception. Golden roast potatoes, seasonal veg, perfectly puffed Yorkshire puddings and rich gravy surround the weekly meat centrepiece. Grab a creamy Guinness, local cider or ale and it’s like you’re in a proper British pub. A tip for the wine-lovers: the cellar list is well worth a peek for some exceptional bottles among the private collection there.

Shipwrights Arms

29 Trumpeter Street, Battery Point

Shipwrights Arms (or ‘Shippies” to her friends) is the quintessential old school pub. Really old school: the bar itself has been a watering hole for locals and seafarers alike since 1846. But where other pubs stick to Sundays, Shippies plates up their sumptuous roast all weekend. It rotates weekly, so you might be treated to a slow-cooked lamb shank with lashings of gravy, and a traditional accompaniment of Yorkshire pud and roast veg. You don’t have to stick to the bar, either. You can also enjoy your roast in the cosy Hold area, the airy, glass-walled Shoal restaurant or the timber-panelled warmth of the Slip. Sit back with a vino or a pint from one of their nine beer taps (including Guinness).

  • The best finisher for this perfect day? Their sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel and one of their premium Tasmanian whiskies.

Cascade Brewery Bar

140 Cascade Road, South Hobart

Tasmania’s oldest brewery, Cascade is a refreshing taste of history. It’s also got a cracking menu at the brewery bar, serving up pub classics and a weekly Sunday Roast from 4-8pm. They always change it up, but keep fairly close to tradition. Obviously, you’ll have the whole Cascade lineup to choose from at the bar, as well as a tidy selection of Tasmanian wines and spirits and a few classic cocktails. Round it out with a bread and butter pudding or a Cascade Export Stout chocolate cake (too much? Just share). The cosy dining spaces and a crackling fire are perfect for settling in with a hearty roast. But if the weather’s nice, it’s hard to resist the epic beer garden - all three acres of it. It’s a perfect spot to bring the kids, so they can run and play while you kick back.

Telegraph Hotel

19 Morrison Street, Hobart

The Telegraph Hotel stands out near the waterfront with its sleek facade. A pub since 1858, it’s been tastefully refurbed with warm lighting, white walls and accents of timber and mossy green, complete with elevated restaurant dining and rooftop bar. But that fresh face and bougie menu hides a down-to-earth soul, and nowhere is this more clear than when you settle in for a roast at the public bar. Every Sunday lunch from 12pm, you’ll be served a traditional roast (always locally sourced) with luscious gravy and generous trimmings - a picture perfect plate for $33. Plus, there’s a smaller serve for kids at just $16. It’s seasonal and nourishing pub soul food for the whole family. The best part is, it’ll be different next week, so you’ve got an excuse to make a habit of it.

Moonah Hotel

99 Main Road, Moonah

The first thing to know about Moonah Hotel is that it has a much better wine list than you’d expect from a suburban pub. The by-the-glass veers towards the fun, young and Australian, but you can select something from the cellar next door (one of Hobart’s best bottle shops) and just pay corkage. So it goes without saying that wine with your roast is strongly recommended (not a vino fan? They also have 12 beer taps). The offering is simple: Meat, seasonal veg, potato, Yorkies, gravy, all for a solid $26. Deliciously good value, all around.

New Sydney Hotel

87 Bathurst Street, Hobart

Hobart’s iconic Irish pub (and one of Australia’s best), but this time you’re not here for the spice bag. The evening Sunday roast is a weekly tradition of The New Sydney Hotel, with a different meat as the main event. You can rest assured, whatever the roast, each and every one is precision engineered to pair with a gold, creamy Guinness. And may as well finish off with a Guinness cake while you’re at it. Find your spot near the fireplace, surrounded by memorabilia, flags, live music and good craic, and you’ll feel like you’re right in Ireland.

  • It's an Irish pub, but they also have Hobart's best selection of Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottles above the bar - genuinely unique and fun drams for the whisky nerd.
