Where To Find Real Taiwanese Street Food in Melbourne? AhMa’s Your New Go-To

By

Melbourne’s CBD just got a delicious chunk of Taipei with the arrival of AhMa Taiwanese Streetfood—the latest venture by acclaimed chef Spring Chee who has creds from Big Comma and Tokyo Motto.

This vibrant new eatery is bringing authentic night market flavours to Chinatown, with its intimate stall-inspired decor and wallet-friendly menu of Taiwanese classics. The 48-seat venue’s name pays tribute to Chee’s grandmother (AhMa means "grandmother" in Taiwanese), with recipes drawn straight from family cookbooks.

Dishes that are not to be missed include the surprisingly delicious steamed pork blood rice cake, crispy tapioca-fried chicken schnitzel and the ultimate comfort food—braised beef noodle soup with melt-in-your-mouth shin.

Don’t pass over their daily-made mochi, boiled in ginger syrup and rolled in black sesame or peanut for that perfect QQ (Taiwanese equivalent to al-dente) texture. Faithful to Taiwanese tradition, every meal comes with traditional black tea on the house, believed to have detoxifying properties.

Located at 206 Bourke Street, this exciting new addition to Melbourne’s Taiwanese scene is open daily from 11:30am for walk-ins. AhMa is here to show that you don’t need Michelin stars for impressive flavours. Head here for bookings.
