Stack Your April Calendar With 4 Unmissable Events In Melbourne

By Jess Willemse

With cooler days rolling around, April might be your last chance to get outside before the Melbourne chill sets in. We want to make the most of this in true Urban List fashion by scouting out all of the must-do events going down.

Lucky for you, the team over at Fed Square have done it again. They've got you sorted throughout April with lol-worthy evenings at the comedy festival, sustainable foodie tours and local gigs.

Book it in; here's what to hit up at Fed Square this season.

Laugh Out Loud At Melbourne International Comedy Festival

Friday, April 1 – Sunday, April 24

If there's one thing we can't turn down, it's a guaranteed belly laugh. Raise your spirits at Melbourne International Comedy Festival this April with a slew of class-act shows all month long. Whether you're into classic stand-up comedy or prefer more extravagant performances, there's something for you. What's more, the whole event is totally free—how's that for a win? There are plenty of laugh-out-loud favourites taking the stage, including Anna Pocket Rocket, Annie Louey and Clara Cupcakes. Rally the crew and gear up for a good giggle.

Go Green With Futurefoodsystem

Until Saturday, April 23

Calling everyone with a green thumb, this event is for you—but get in quick because it's only around for a few more weeks. Futurefoodsystem is about all things sustainable, tasty and inventive. Each Saturday, plant nerds can tour the innovative greenhouse with Cam Smith, where you'll dive deep into the project and its potential to change how we think about food. Head down before April 23  for an eye-opening tour and insights into the positive impacts of zero-waste solutions.

Feel The Vibes At Fed Live

Thursday, April 14

In case you've missed it, Fed Live is a free monthly concert gracing our calendars for all of 2022. April's event is a serious vibe, featuring epic local acts and artists. Kicking things off is D'Arcy Spiller, whose heartfelt stories will set the tone for the evening. Bones & Jones will follow, laying down a familiar sound inspired by times gone by. Headlining the show is none other than the cool-kid trio, The Grogans, delivering their relaxing rock sounds to round out the night. We can't think of a better way to start the weekend early; spend a Thursday evening mellowing out to these musical faves.

Be A Big Kid At Fed Films

Monday, April 11 – Saturday, April 23

It's always a win when Fed Square drops a line-up of flicks set to grace the big outdoor screen. April's itinerary teams nicely with the school holidays, so bet on a few childhood favourites and newer family-style films. Recent picks include the latest Pokemon Detective Pikachu, while you can also catch the Tron and Jumanji series. Throwback numbers are The Iron Giant and Matilda—you can never see that movie too many times. We personally have the Miyazaki winners booked into the cal—My Neighbour Totoro and Spirited Away. Plus, all the films are free—pack the popcorn and pull up a chair; April movies are sorted.
