5 Of The Best Mid-Week Activities To Break Up The Work Week

By Courtney Ammenhauser

No matter how much you love your job, some weeks just seem to drag, right? But, instead of wishing them away, we’re trying to add in more mid-week activities to embrace our thriving cities while giving us something to look forward to during the work week.

It can be easy to get stuck in the same routine of gym, work, TV, and repeat, which is why we teamed up with Timezone to help you shake things up a bit. So, next time you’re craving a new experience, add one of these activities to your calendar mid-week.

Embrace Your Inner Child

Head to Timezone to tap into your inner child with your mates mid-week. Reminiscent of school holidays gone by, the beloved arcade is filled with a myriad of ways to have a damn good time. Test your skills on the arcade's incredible games, play a few rounds of laser tag or put your pedal to metal on the bumper cars. There are over locations 50 locations nationwide so find your local and get playing.

Stay In Your Lane

If you’re the competitive type, bowling a couple of strikes is a super satisfying way to split up your work week. The legends at Zone Bowling have been dishing up exciting bowling experiences for over 30 years. Now with over 30 locations on offer, it’s easy to see why it’s the go-to destination for so many. The best bit? It’s not just ten-pin bowling you can get amongst at Zone. Each location has a range of other offerings including laser tag and tasty food and drink to tuck into after battling it out on the lanes.

Bend It Like Kerr

If the Tillies didn’t already inspire you to reconnect with your primary school days on the soccer (ahem, football) field, consider this your sign to rally the crew to form a sports team of your own. It’s a great way to get the blood pumping, socialise and maybe even celebrate at the local afterwards. If soccer isn’t your thing, try another sport like netball, volleyball, touch football or basketball. Don’t have sporty mates? Plenty of teams are looking for extra players to join their team. Simply get in touch with your local club and put your name down as a substitute and you’ll have a team faster than you can say Kyra Cooney-Cross.

Get Arty After Dark

Sometimes going to the galleries on the weekend can be a bit of a hard task with all the large groups and long queues waiting to get inside. To reduce your wait time but increase the overall vibe, make tracks to a gallery with an after-dark program to get your fine art fix with a side of live music and drinks. Some of our favourites include the Art Gallery of NSW, Art Gallery of Western Australia and The Lume

Catch A Live Show

A surefire way to escape the weekly grind is to slip into another world. In our humble opinion, one of the best ways to do this is to head to a local live show. Whether you’re into music, comedy, theatre or something more niche, live shows can be a portal to another realm. You’d be surprised just how many shows are happening mid-week, and often, you’ll get to see huge acts testing out new material in intimate venues or rising stars before they blow up. Our picks across the country include Comedy Republic, Griffin Theatre, Metro Arts and Freo Social.
