Amid the fine diners of Flinders Lane, a promising taste of something special has flown in from the north. Opened in August and already making a splash, the message is clear: the award-winning Blackbird has officially landed in Melbourne.

The Ghanem Group has orchestrated the arrival of the Brisbane icon, planting it firmly in the heart of our city. This three-level marvel at Collins Place has been crafted with a moodier, more intimate Melbourne state of mind, feeling both grand and instantly familiar. It’s a venue designed for long, share-style feasts as much as for easy mid-week burgers and beers.

Behind The Doors

At the helm of this culinary mission is a man coming home. Executive Chef Jake Nicolson, a Victorian native, cut his teeth in the kitchens of Daylesford and London before helping launch the original Blackbird in Brisbane over a decade ago. Now, he’s back with a bang.

“I am very much looking forward to rekindling and building upon the great relationships with growers and producers I had formed during my early years in Victoria,” Chef Nicolson says.

“Showcasing the best of each season’s bounty, and combining the very best produce from Victoria and Queensland for all to celebrate through the menus at Blackbird Melbourne is very exciting.”

The Blackbird Melbourne experience begins by leaving the Flinders Lane hustle at the door for a moody, street-level cocktail bar. Here, a stunning Patagonia Quartzite bar anchors a sunken lounge filled with plush armchairs—a setting that demands a perfectly chilled martini.

From there, a dramatic, chandelier-lit staircase draws you upward. The first-floor dining room offers a split personality: a vibrant, mirror-ceilinged space below, and a darker, more intimate den wrapped in charcoal hues above. The journey continues up on a dedicated third floor for private dining, where flexible spaces host everything from an intimate dinner of 12 to a seamless celebration for 46.

Your Reason To Visit, Any Day Of The Week

Built for the city's rhythm, there's a reason to visit Blackbird every day, no matter the occasion.

For the quick and casual bite, the $29 Burger & Beer deal is a daily lunchtime deliverer (12pm–4pm). Bite into a dry-aged beef burger paired with your choice of house beer, wine or a soft drink, available for walk-ins in the bar.

When midday calls for something more, the weekday $45 Express Lunch (12pm–4pm, Monday–Friday) brings two courses of elevated classics like zucchini blossom fritters and beef tartare with black truffle mustard, plus a drink. Add a decadent dessert for an extra $10 to take things up a notch.

And for the main event, the Feasting Menu ($98pp) is where Blackbird truly takes flight. This three-course, share-style event is a journey through their signature dishes, from yellowfin tuna tartare to cumin-spiced lamb shoulder. To raise the stakes, add a spectacular seafood platter laden with Moreton Bay bugs, king prawns and freshly shucked oysters for an additional $37 per person.

From a spontaneous bar bite to a grand cocktail soirée, Blackbird Melbourne is designed for it all. Book your table here
